Kyrgyz Republic Deputy Ministers Almaz Sazbakov of Economy, and Erkinbek Choduev of Agriculture, opened the forum to scope opportunities of agro-food cluster value chains, prioritize investments, and identify policy reforms.

Kyrgyz Republic’s representatives of national, oblast, and city governments, including development partners and the private sector, agreed on the high potential of agricultural value chains in the framework of the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor Initiative (ABCI), which is part of the CAREC program and supported by ADB.

The ABCI was launched with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the city administrations of Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic) at the 13th CAREC Ministerial Conference.

Under the initiative, Almaty and Bishkek will develop the first CAREC economic corridor at the city level.
