The Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (ABEC) Transport and Infrastructure Development Working Group met on 12–13 August 2024 at Lake Issyk-Kul, the Kyrgyz Republic. The meeting reviewed the updated ABEC Economic Impact Assessment of the Almaty-Issyk-Kul alternative road, as well as the findings of the technical and financial screening studies. The parties agreed on the project's positive socio-economic effects for both countries, particularly in boosting regional tourism and connectivity along ABEC. Mr. Bekzhan Rysmendeev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Mr. Zhambyl Baktiyar, Deputy Chairman of the Road Committee of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, co-chaired the meeting and signed a protocol with the agreements and next steps.
