On 28–29 May 2024, about 50 representatives from the governments of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic met in Astana, Kazakhstan to agree on closer economic cooperation. First Vice Minister of National Economy Timur Zhaksylykov, and Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Iskender Asylkulov opened the 8th Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor Subcommittee Meeting (SCM) and CWRD DG Eugenue Zhukov delivered key remarks. The meeting reviewed ongoing ABEC projects and initiatives in the sectors of connectivity, air quality and disaster risk management, health sector, and tourism; identified priority projects and agreed on joint action plans. Both countries signed the 8th SCM protocol.
